Family

Reach, Inc. believes that we all “bring our families with us” whether literal or virtual, so the family dynamic is always explored.  When working with adolescents and children it is paramount to involve the actual family system (when appropriate).  Assigned or assumed roles, communication styles, capacity for “contact”, levels of trust, meaningful and congruent expression, and hierarchy are all explored within the family system.  Often the “system problem” is focused on one individual, usually a child or adolescent, called the “indentified patient” or “scapegoat”.  Through family therapy each member’s contribution to the “problem” is explored, and new healthy ways of interacting and connecting are discovered.
